Week Update
Hello blog world. This week was a busy week for me, so I wasn't able to post that much. I hope you all enjoyed my Brian McKnight video. Beware, I listen to all types of music, so one day, you may get R&B, the next Soft Rock, the next Alternative, etc. I think you get the point. :)
I was talking to Foxy and Red's sister the other day and we were talking about cars. It got me thinking about when I learned to drive, and the issues I had. I was about 12 years old, and my dad lived in Arizona. We went to visit for the summer, and he had just bought a truck; a 1985 Jimmy, stick shift, light blue. It was SO pretty, and from then on, I was in love with trucks. My dad takes my sister and I in the mountains, pulls over, gets out and says drive. Now, the first mistake, you don't let a 12 y/o, who thinks she "got the wheel" drive on narrow-ass windy roads up and down a mountain. But, to my amazement, I did good. We didn't fall down the side of the mountain :). I did, however, pull to the side of the road, in a patch of mud that was about 3 feet deep, and was stuck for about ten minutes. My dad was HOT!!!!! He did eventually get us out.
After he cooled off, he let me drive again. Now, for those of you who have driven a stick, you know that when you first learn, it's very difficult. Having to control the clutch, the gas, the brake, the stick (shift)... AAArrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh! But, I'm a fast learner, so I got that down pretty quickly. What I didn't get down pretty quickly was downshifting. We were coming to s stop light, and the light was red. So my dad told me to downshift gears (I think I was in 4th gear). I downshifted from 4 to 3, from 3 to 2, and just as I was about to downshift to first, the light turns green. He says OK, now you're going slow enough to put it in 1st and step on the gas. OK, I got this, I said to myself. YEAH RIGHT!!! I shifted and stepped on the gas and we jerked the whole way through the light. I was trying to put in 1st, but it kept going into third. I'm cracking up the whole time, and he's screaming and yelling, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!?!?! PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!! PUT IT INTO FIRST!!!!!!!! I couldn't help it. It was so funny to me. My sister was laughing too.
Tell me your funny driving stories. I know I'm not the only one out there with funny "learning how to drive stories".

The first time I drove was i was in my dads lap ( and here i was like 7) and like (driving a 1997 Ford Escort is alot diffrent then driving and 1997 Mistubishi Eclipse) like i was driving down the street at like 25 mph and ran right into a stop sighn and then ran into mailboxes.... I dunno I dont really remember I just remember falling out of the car laughing... it might not be that funny to others but it was pretty funnt to me.

My first car was a stick and I brought it not even knowing how to drive one. But I eventually got the hang of it. When I was at a red light though that was the worse time because I never could get the car going without stalling out.

HA! This brought back memories. My stepmother took me out in her little two-seater stick shift when I was 12 because she was pregnant and she thought it would be good for me to know how to drive it in case anything happened at the house and I had to go get help. Well, it was exhausting, but fun. Many years later, my dad gave me that car to drive. BUT, the emergency brake didn't work, and the plastic back window was all cloudy and the air didn't work so I had to drive with the top down, except when it rained and I couldn't see out the back or breathe in the heat... LOL Imagine driving on a very hilly island, in traffic, with no emergency brake. I used to wave to the people behind me to not get too close because I knew I was going to roll back... LOL Hilarious memories! Thanks MsP!

Girl, that is very funny! Reminded me of my "just getting started" stories. I pretty much experienced the same thing you did with starting out on a hill, which I wasn't aware would happen. And an ex-boyfriend taught me how to drive a stick. Damn, that was frustrating but I got it eventually. Thankfully, he was patient! :)

I lied and told my mom that I knew how to drive...so I took her manual volvo out for a spin when I was 17. I lived in the Bay Area, which has a lot of hills, so you know what's coming! I got stopped at a stop sign on a hill. I was stuck there for about 20 minutes, waving cars around me because I was deathly afraid of rolling back into another car while trying to get into first gear. It was horrible, I cried even though my little brother and sister were with me (never live that down) and avoided hills for another hill until I started working in SF.
